JC Series You'll Love

Canon familiarity: you don't need much. this was written while the series was ongoing and diverges pretty early on

Reading Order: Note - the earlier fics are short-story to novella length, (Talking Stick, Circle, A Cherished Alienation, The Red Queen's Repose, Walking Across Egypt,) laying the ground work for this alternate imagining of Voyager's journey and lead into the beautiful novel length final three stories (Raisins and Almonds, Otterskin, The Rose and the Yew Tree).

Canon familiarity: If you're familiar up to Endgame, you'll be fine with all of this series

Reading Order: Start with Coming Home with you, then we recommend going to read Between Two Heavenly Bodies (Chakotay's POV of Coming Home with You). You can either head right to the sequels - Let's Get This Party Started, The Last Red Alert and The Morning After or you can read the companion / prequel Just Good Friends (J&P friendship)

From there, Indiana Idyll picks up where Coming Home With You leaves off. and there's several other short or relatively short fics that take place around this time-frame. Read or skip the in-between stories at your leisure. The major fics in the arc make reference to them, but not in such a way that reading them out of order is going to be a hassle.

The Final major story in this series is Crossing the Rubicon, and is well worth the read!

Canon familiarity: If you're familiar up to Endgame, you'll be fine with all of this series

Reading Order:

  • The Last Night (an original episode style story set in the early seasons)

  • Kintsugi - this is a post Endgame AU and honestly it works well as a stand-alone. Events in The Last Night are referenced in enough detail that readers can fill in the blanks.

  • The Travelers Tale - Direct sequel to Kintsugi.

  • Return to Earth - This one is currently on our WIPS we're rooting for page - and nearly done! 🎉🎉🎉

Canon familiarity: If you're familiar up to Endgame, you'll be fine with all of this series

Reading Order:

  • Overcome or Hell After This: Overcome is a prequel to Hell After This and it's a little bit fun to read the latter first and then read the prequel to answer some of the questions you'll have from Hell

  • Fire: Sequel to Hell - and some justice for our beloved heroine!

Canon familiarity: This series is still developing - for now, to appreciate the fics in this collection, above all else, you need to go check out the fabulous artwork of the collection owners. Maliciousalice and Baylardo have created a gorgeous visual universe that has inspired quite a few people to play in their sandbox.

Reading Order:

These fics are done by multiple authors so some details may not agree with each other. That said, we'll try to give them in chronological order. The collection runners have also kindly sent us their favorite art that they've created for the AU and we've placed it where we think it goes on the timeline.

Check out ForceForGood's excellent series of episode and series ending re-writes. The romantic JC is most prevelant in the final two stories but you will have plenty of jc-friendly content in the first two as well.

  • Year of Hell, Season of Hope - This is a marvelous re-write of Year of Hell where the timeline does not reset and where a badly damaged Voyager survives the encounter with the Kremin timeship and must spend time rebuilding the ship and regaining contact with the crew.

  • Equinox: At the Gate of Daybreak - a dramatic rewrite of Equinox that fleshes out Janeway's rage at Ransom in excellent detail! Can be read by itself

  • Homecoming the Voyager Coalition: Volume 1 - A re-write of the end of Voyager that replaces Endgame - with a different thrilling Borg plot and even higher stakes. The conclusion the series should have had really.

  • Homecoming the Voyager Coalition Volume 2 - A follow up that ties up the loose ends from volume one and has a lot of JC romance. While it is currently unfinished, the final written chapter does not leave you on a cliffhanger and is still perfectly enjoyable for the look at the characters continuing their lives after getting home. If you're willing to imagine the ending definitely read until the last-published chapter.
